At a time when popular rap verses were churned out in steady, breathless streamlines, Mystikal burst onto the scene with an aggressive sound that was so uniquely his own. Seemingly erratic but carefully calculated, swift crescendos trademarked a new style that has since proved impossible to duplicate.
His first album, Mind ofMystikal, was released in 1996 by Jive and No Limit Records, but it was really his explosive collaboration with Master P and other No Limit artists on 1998's hit single "Make 'Em Say Ugh" that made the music world take notice. His energetic performance on this track was the quintessential surprise element that pulled the song together as an unforgettable original, peaking at Number 6 on the US Rap charts. Later that year he would be featured on Silkk the Shocker's track, "It Ain't My Fault" helping catapult the song to Number 1, the beginning of a string of hit songs that would top the charts for the next five years. His rough vocal uppercuts provided a brilliant contrast with R&B artists such as Joe and Nivea, with whom he was able to create more chart topping singles that were some of the most memorable of the decade. He teamed up with the velvet voiced Snoop Dogg for "Woof" in 1999 and Lil Jon and the East Side Boyz for the club-banger "I Don't Give A Fuck" in 2002. Indeed every subgenre of hip-hop that Mystikal touched lent a new excitement that was deeply innovative and unprecedented.
"It's been so long…" but now Mystikal is back and signed with Cash Money Records and Stampede Management and is ready to put out new music that promises to retain the novel unpredictable rasp to make the world fall in love with him once again.
